Steve Eccles – PR and Comms Specialist

Steve has around 40 years’ experience of PR and marketing in a variety of fields, most recently in heritage, tourism and culture, and many years as a radio broadcaster and producer.

Steve can help refine or create PR Plans, produce effective press releases, deal with tricky situations with the media, and maximise your profile. He can advise on internal communications, and if radio or podcasts are for you, he’s here to help!

His most recent experience is as public relations officer for a local council, where he promotes the work of the Culture team, including museums, an art gallery, a zoo, and a range of venues, libraries and leisure centres. He have previously worked in a similar role in York, where some of the city’s most famous museums were part of his remit.

In addition, he has a weekly radio show on Beverley FM, and has been a regular broadcaster on York Hospital Radio since 1978. He was also part of the broadcasting team which launched Stray FM, Harrogate’s commercial radio station.

Some major PR achievements in recent years include:

• The key PR role in promoting the York 800 campaign across the city, celebrating 800 years since York received its royal charter to become a city, involving a wide range of heritage and tourism partners
• Promoting the City of Culture Year across the East Riding in 2017, including a range of events such as a beach music festival
• Promoting major exhibitions at museums and venues including Sewerby Hall and Beverley Art Gallery
• Promoting the refurbishment and relaunch of Sewerby Hall
• Promoting the opening of the new leisure centres in Bridlington and Hornsea.
